Memorial Day
Memorial Day is rapidly approaching, reminding us of the losses endured by the US military. The holiday was created to honor fallen military members who died serving in the US armed forces. It started as Decoration Day in the years following the Civil War and became a Federal Holiday in 1971. The holiday was meant to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers. It wasn’t until World War I that Memorial Day was established as a way to remember all military personnel who died in service. Though the dates and events surrounding the holiday have changed over the years, it has always been a time to honor those who have sacrificed their lives.
